It all started with a man in a suit, a bedspread the color of regret, and a boy too beautiful for HR. I call it “The Job Interview,” but let’s not kid ourselves—he got the position before he even applied.
Oh, the 1960s. When curtains were louder than protests and silence was just another sexual orientation. They said “don’t ask, don’t tell,” but I’ve always been more of a “look, darling, and gasp.”
This piece is my love letter to every boy who dared to iron his slacks for an appointment with a man who pretended not to watch. It’s for the drapes, the vodka, the hush, the heat.
