“Under Cover” | A Surreal Commentary on Surveillance, Spectacle, and State Narratives | by Joan Seed

from $600.00

A love letter from Joan

Darling,

They always said women have eyes in the back of their heads, but I prefer mine loaded with Cold War optics and government contracts. Under Cover is my ode to the era when paranoia was fashionable and lipstick came in “Atomic Red.”

Here we have our glossy protagonist — part femme fatale, part satellite dish — observing a world on fire from behind the thick glass of plausible deniability. Meanwhile, the motorcade boys wave like everything’s fine. It isn’t. But the hair is perfect, so onward we march.

In this piece, the gaze isn’t just male — it’s militarized, bureaucratized, and quite frankly, bored. She sees all, says nothing, and files a memo about it later.

Stay watchful, won’t you?

Love,

Joan

Description

‘Under Cover’ is a retro-futurist political collage that explores the hidden machinery behind glamor and spectacle. A beautiful woman’s face is revealed as a cover for a secret technological operation, while political leaders wave in the background of a burning city. The work critiques surveillance, propaganda, and the seductive illusions of power.

This museum-quality piece is intended for art collectors and curators focused on conceptual surrealism, narrative-driven work, and sociopolitical commentary.
