Changing Tides | Environmental Commentary, Surrealist Pop Art | By Joan Seed
Changing Tides, a love letter from Joan Seed
Darling,
They said the future would be bright — they just didn’t mention the radiation burn. Here I am, diving headfirst into the desert, chasing the ghost of the ocean and the promise of progress. The water’s gone, the factories hum, and the applause never stops.
I suppose we all dive for something: truth, fame, escape — or just a place to cool off before the planet finishes toasting. If you find me washed up beside the wreckage, do be a dear and bring champagne.
Love,
Joan

Description
“Changing Tides” by Joan Seed is a provocative 1960s-inspired surrealist collage confronting the illusions of industrial progress and environmental collapse.
A vintage swimmer dives gracefully into a cracked, barren earth — a haunting metaphor for humankind’s pursuit of beauty amid decay. Behind her, gleaming machinery looms like the architecture of denial, capturing the paradox of optimism in an era of destruction.
Witty, subversive, and unmistakably Joan Seed, Changing Tides transforms climate anxiety into retro-futurist poetry — equal parts satire and elegy for the modern world.
